Dr. Jeremy Owens, DMA, CAGO, is currently Associate Professor at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa, a position he has held since 2010. At Briar Cliff, Dr. Owens teaches courses in Music Appreciation, Music History, World Music, Music Technology. He also teaches Organ and Piano Lessons and serves as accompanist for the college choir and vocal students on campus. In addition, Dr. Owens has a private studio of piano and organ students off campus ranging in age from ten to seventy. As a church musician, Dr. Owens has been active in the Sioux City area since he arrived in the area, working at or substituting for many of the local denominations. Before accepting the position at the Cathedral, he held full-time positions as the Primary Accompanist at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City and as the Primary Organist at Dowd Chapel in Boys Town, Nebraska. Dr. Owens received his Bachelor of Music degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where he studied piano with Dr. David Worth. He continued graduate studies and completed both his Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts degrees at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he studied with Dr. Noel Engebretson. Dr. Owens is an active member of the Omaha Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, attending workshops and continuously working to improve his skills. In 2017, he completed the Service Playing Certification Exam and, in 2018, he earned the Colleague of the American Guild of Organists certification. Dr. Owens has a passion for music history, piano tuning, and all things related to Star Wars. He is married to his wonderful wife, Sue, and they share their time with their 2-year-old Bichon mix Meg and their 12-year-old Shih-Tzu Buddy Boy.
